Septic Tank Maintenance
The frequency of Septic tank pumping is determined by the size and age of your septic tank, and the number of people living in your house.
The older your septic system is, the more likely you have a smaller septic tank. Newer septic systems have at least a 1500 gal. tank. septic systems that were installed over 40 years ago might be as small as 500 gals.
I recommend a family of 4 should pump out the septic tank every 2 years, and thats if you have at least a 1000 gal. septic tank. A family of only 2 people can go up to 3 years. Remember babies count! Just because they don't use the toilet doesn't mean they don't use a lot of water, they have baths, dishes, and laundry, sometimes even more than an adult. It all goes into your septic system.
Pumping your septic tank cost a couple of hundred dollars, a new septic system can cost upwards of $25,000 - $60,000. The choice is yours! I am not an installer, I want to help you learn how to maintain your septic system.
I will never try and sell you anything to put in your septic system.
Many of my competitors will carry their own product, which they will try and sell you after they pump your septic tank, claiming they just removed all your valuable bacteria and enzymes. This is nonsense!
The small amount of water that is left in the botom of your septic tank after it is pumped contains billions of enzymes.
The only reason you will not have enough enzymes in your septic tank is, if you are killing them!
How do you kill the bacteria?
Bleach! A small amount of bleach used in your laundry has little effect on your system, but useing large amounts in the laundry and to clean the toilet ect. is very harmfull. Cleaning Paint Brushes in the sink! Don't do it! Latex or oil base, it doesnt matter. Not good for your septic system.
